These wood or fabric-covered top treatments add beauty and function to any room. Cornices have been in style for hundreds of years, and we offer contemporary style options that will help them fit in with any interior design aesthetic. Choose from several different design options to transform your windows.
What are Cornices?
Cornice boards are a solid framework that is placed at the top of a window. They are usually made of wood and can be upholstered with fabric. They are different from architectural cornices, which is the decorative trim where the wall meets the roof. They are also different from valances, which are drapes of fabric traditionally hung from rods. Our custom cornices can be fit to any window in your home.
Benefits of Cornices
Adding cornice boards or a wood valance to your home’s interior can provide several benefits for your home.
Visual Interest
Cornices are customizable and can add an attractive decorative element to any window. Choose a classic stained wood aesthetic or elect to cover the cornice in a fabric that compliments your walls, coordinates with furniture, or matches your window treatments. You can also choose to add arches, scallops, or steps to your cornice to create more dynamic shapes.
Add Height
Hanging a window cornice so that it covers the top trim of your window makes your window appear taller. This added window height will also make your ceiling seem taller than it is and add an overall sense of space to your rooms.
Block Light
Cornice boards are solid pieces of wood which means they are great for blocking light at the top of your windows. This feature is useful even if you have other window coverings, as there is often a gap between the top of your window treatment and the top trim on a window.
Hide Hardware
Perhaps the most significant benefit that cornices provide is that they can hide any unsightly hardware. A wood valance hinges above the top trim of your window, which means it covers roller shade cassettes, Roman shade stacks, headrails, drapery rods, and even battery packs from motorized window covering systems.
